I was not paid or asked to post this review in any way. We at Gaiscioch Magazine make it a point to only write about the games we are passionate about I can say without a doubt that I look forward to streaming this game more as it progresses.ELDERBORN is a great throwback to the classics FPS dungeon crawlers such as Stonekeep, Hexen, and Might & Magic Dark Messiah. Frame rates are fast, movement is fluid, and it doesn't take long to figure out the controls. As this game is in early access, remember that this is a game currently in development. The fun of Early Access is watching a game come into maturity. At this point of this review the game is only 1 preview level but that preview lasted about an hour and a half and was quite polished for being Early Access. This game had some serious nostalgia value to it for any of us Xennials and Gen-Xers who grew up playing the original Dungeon Crawler FPS games. If you're not ready to jump in on ELDERBORN yet I highly recommend following us on Twitch at https://twitch.tv/thegaisciochfamily as we will be streaming it periodically as it moved towards launch. You can watch our first look video at:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2l0o1vTtIo . Additionally keep an eye on https://www.gaisciochmagazine.com/games/elderborn/ as we will be gathering news from around the web about this game as well as listing each of our livestream videos in case you've missed one.. Pretty gosh darn good.it is still light in content (took me about an hour to finish whats available on the game) but dang the combat, the animations, the POLISH (no pun intended, devs are from Poland) in this game atm is exceptional, the devs are working hard on the game and both the promise and the expectations for this game (at least for me) are uber high.if you plan on getting the game, you should probably wait, but if you want to support the devs, get the game now.. Nice things Very hardcore. In the beginning they'll go easy on you, but later on you'll run screaming as four mummie dudes come for your brovaries. METAL MUSIC. Killing Floor would be proud. No HUD. This is actually a good thing, to immerse yourself better in the hell you've ended up. You get enough information from your screen to be able to 'see' your health (more dead = more gray), and other's health (big glowly warts that pop).Meh things Sometimes a little confusing where you should go. I've ran in a few circles thinking I was going the right way. It could use a good polish. For a game in 2019 currently the controls feel quite basic and sometimes clunky (the character's collision is wider than expected, and climbing feels weird). Enemies respawn when you die. It can get quite annoying if you have the wrong spawn-point and need to back-track through them.Not-nice things The world is quite claustrophobic. There's not really much room to walk/dodge so you often find yourself just retreating to wider areas. Not a lot of content. Just enough to get over the 2 hour mark that it can't be refunded (not that you should, just a note on the relatively high price). The devs are working hard on the game though so this should hopefully not count anymore in ~1-2 year(s).VerdictAll in all I do recommend this game for those craving for a small hardcore adventure through hell! The boss at the end has a small surprise for you. ;) But I won't spoil too much.... I praise the game for: a perfectly written melee combat, you can almost feel the impact of weapons on the controller. The next advantages are the climatic designs of ancient locations, also the audio layer: moody ambient intertwined with energetic heavy metal, interesting diversified weapons, behavior and appearance of opponents with all of the entire barbaric envelope. The game is just like good ol' titles back in the days but with a fresh visual and great sounding, so it has THAT feeling. There are really cool, non-standard weapons/ brońki that you won't fight anywhere else! In the background, Elderborn has sort of a taste of Heavy Metal the Movie/ Heavy Metal Magazine universe. The mood and style also refer to Conan The Barbarian and RedSonia or the work of artists such as Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo. A team of several enthusiasts puts a lot of effort and commitment into the game. It's easy to see that Eldeborn is not made just for the sake of pure profit. #fromplayersforplayersJust give us some more!. The most epic final boss battle I've ever witnessed in videogame history. Very promising, feels even more satisfying after the first patch! Eagerly waiting for more content!(Note that the game is still in early stages, so it only includes one level at the moment. More will be added.). I cant say this game is actually good yet, but like many EA games, it has potential.Pros: Decent gameplay, graphics, sound, controlCons: Boring environment, enemies, game doesnt feel "fun"check out this video of the first stage if youre interested:https://youtu.be/eYd4NEN87hs. https://youtu.be/aN0_O2tn7p8Despite my playtime logged (game did not shut down, didn't notice it) I'm still relatively early into the game. However, I can safely say I'm having an absolute blast with Elderborn. Continue pressing on and solve minor puzzles while taking out your foes withe scattered sharp or blunt weapons you pick up along your journey. Also, the heavy metal melee combat is more than just thopse instruments of devastation, but also the symphony for your path of destruction. And that's one of the f iner pooints of this game. The score sounds reminiscent of classic FPS titles like Doom and Heretic, adding to the early action nostalgia factor perfectly. There's no leveling system, justww stronger weapons. Thankfully there is a check point method, which is by drinking from a certain container that leaves a metallic taste in your character's mouth.None of this, however, would matter if the melee combat system wasn';t on point though. The tight controls are easy to master too. Attack with lef mouse bottom, block with the right. Time the blocks right for a brief bout of rage to deal additioinal damage to your opponent. Just watch out for those with ranged attacks. If you grew up with nineties pc FPS gaming, or just have an appreciation for the flair of that era, Elderborn is something you're going to want to check out. While the game itself is very engrossing, it's handled in a way that you can pick it up and play to kill those few minutes you have to kill before being somewhere, as opposed to being something yuou will need to invest a good chunk of your night in to make progress on. Tight controls, great music, and solid action make this a pretty good romp for the price point it carries.
